Seal Evaluation — Test Your Material Before You Commit

More than 32 years of production sealing means most common materials are already in our experience base. For new substrates, proprietary constructions, or unfamiliar laminates, a seal evaluation gives you verified results before any purchase commitment.

If your material is on the list below, you likely do not need an evaluation — contact us to confirm and move directly to discussing a system.

Packet Welding™ has been used to seal a broad range of thermoplastic materials across industries and applications over more than 32 years. The list below represents materials with established sealing parameters — materials we have sealed repeatedly, across production environments, without sealing tape.

Where your material is new to us — a novel substrate, a proprietary blend, a hybrid laminate, or a construction we have not encountered — an evaluation is the right step. It removes uncertainty before any commitment is made, and the cost is credited toward your system purchase.

Materials We Have Already Sealed

The following materials have been sealed using Novaseal® Packet Welding™ equipment — without sealing tape — across production applications.

Vinyl & PVC

  • Vinyls — all weights (clear, standard, heavy)
  • PVC — polyvinyl chloride
  • PVF — polyvinyl fluoride
  • PVDF — polyvinylidene fluoride

Coated & Laminated Fabrics

  • Vinyl-coated polyester
  • Vinyl-coated polyester/cotton
  • Vinyl-laminated polyester
  • Vinyl-coated mesh
  • Firesist® awning materials
  • Phifer Sheerweave™ shade materials
  • Shade cloth
  • Cooley BRITE® materials

Polyurethane

  • Polyurethane (PU)
  • Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)

Sustainable & Vinyl-Alternative Substrates

  • rPET — recycled polyethylene terephthalate
  • Polypropylene (PP)
  • Polyethylene (PE)
  • HDPE — high-density polyethylene
  • PE plastic
  • Renegade Plastics sustainable polypropylene materials — available through our channel partnership

Specialty & Engineering Materials

  • Polyester
  • Nylon
  • ETFE — ethyltetrafluoroethylene
  • PTFE — polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) — film; trial recommended for non-film constructions
Note: All materials listed above have been sealed without sealing tape. With sealing tape, the range of compatible materials extends considerably further — contact us to discuss your specific substrate.
If your material is not on this list — or if you are working with a new substrate, proprietary blend, or hybrid laminate — a seal evaluation is the right next step. It gives you verified sealing performance on your actual material before any purchase decision is made.

Seal Evaluation Can Reveal More Than Welding Parameters

Seal evaluation is not limited to establishing application-specific Packet Welding™ settings. Examination of the completed seam can also identify opportunities to improve seam geometry, eliminate secondary operations, and enhance finished-product performance.

During one recent evaluation, a Packet-Welded offset overlap enclosed both reinforced cut edges within the sealed area. This eliminated the exposed reinforcement-thread wicking pathways left by a conventional overlap and removed the need for welding tape applied solely to cover those edges.

Evaluation Deliverables, Pricing & Submission

What the Evaluation Delivers

Every seal evaluation produces a complete set of results — regardless of material or complexity. These deliverables give you everything needed to make a confident decision before any purchase commitment is made.

01

Technical Seal Report (TSR)

Documented seal strength, consistency, and performance data — the factual record of what Packet Welding™ produced on your material.

02

Close-Up Video

Footage of test seals being made on your actual material — showing seal quality, consistency, and process behavior.

03

Machine Specification

Recommended Novaseal® system configuration based on your material, seam requirements, and production context.

04

Production-Scaled Specifications

Test results translated into a production-ready system specification — configured to meet your cycle time, output volume, and seam length requirements.

Evaluation Fee

$300 per material

Covers our cost of testing, seam evaluation, and application-engineering recommendations. Credited in full toward the purchase of a Novaseal® system.

Extended Testing

$100 / hour

For complex materials or special sealing requirements. Discussed and agreed in advance. Shipping and third-party costs are not included in the purchase credit.

How to Submit Your Material

Material Requirements

  • Send at least 2 meters (80 inches) length of each material at 42 inches wide — sufficient for setup and multiple test runs
  • Materials should be submitted ready for testing — additional preparation may incur hourly charges
  • Label each sample clearly. If submitting multiple materials, label each distinctly so we can reference them accurately in the report
  • Include your name, company, email, and phone number — or a business card
  • If you want samples returned, include your FedEx or UPS account number. For oversized rolls, contact us before shipping

Testing Requirements

  • Required — Your target shear and/or peel strength values, along with any specific sealing requirements or operating conditions to simulate
  • Optional but helpful — A sealed production sample showing the seal type, width, and quality standard your application requires — useful as a visual reference for material alignment, orientation, and seal quality alongside your strength targets
